Dental crowns are a great option for anyone interested in repairing damaged or aesthetically imperfect teeth, dental crowns are a great choice that many opt for.

Crowns can be installed in just one day, though not all dentists have the ability or equipment needed to offer this option. In such cases, the procedure is done over two sessions, usually several weeks apart.

At The Dental Lounge, we stop at nothing to stay abreast of the latest methods and procedures. We keep modern equipment and innovative technology, offering top-quality, one-day dental crowns.

The steps of placing a crown are straightforward, though differ some depending on whether you are having one-day crowns or traditional crowns installed.

Preparation

Whichever process you undertake, the preparation is typically the same. The dentist will begin by doing a full examination, paying attention to the broken/damaged tooth/teeth and the surrounding area to determine viability.

Filing and Shaping

Next, the teeth are shaped in such a way that the crown can slide over the natural tooth. The tooth will be filed around the sides to create a “peg” structure and sometimes built up using filling material where needed in order to support the crown.

One Day Crowns

Here is where the process starts to differ depending on the type of procedure you are having done.

Scans

The dentist will take a special scan of your mouth which will be used to make a 3D replica of your prepared teeth.

Creating the Crown

Using special software (usually CAD or CAM), the crown is designed digitally. One-day crowns are always made from ceramic, a milling machine is used to carve the designed crown from a block of ceramic.

Traditional Crowns

Traditional crowns are usually applied over two visits. They can be made from different materials including porcelain and metal.

Impressions

After the teeth have been prepared, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth. A shade for the final crown will also be selected if opting for porcelain crowns. This along with the impressions will be sent off to be used to make the final crown.

Temporary Crown

Until the final crown is ready, a temporary crown is used. These are usually made from resin or acrylic, not strong enough to last more than a few weeks.

Installing the Final Crown

Here, the processes for both one-day and traditional crowns are the same. A special dental cement is used to bond the crown which is slid over the prepared tooth. The dentist will evaluate the final result and advise you on how to care for your teeth going forward.
