WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL?

A Root Canal is a way of getting rid of an infection in a tooth without having to get rid of the actual tooth itself. A root canal won’t save your tooth—by the time you need one, it’s too late for that, but it will allow you to keep it, along with a porcelain crown.

WHAT DOES A ROOT CANAL DO?

A Root Canal is a dental procedure used to remove the infected material from an abscessed or cracked tooth and relieve root canal pain. Your teeth’s root canals contain nerves and blood vessels. Once an adult tooth has emerged from the gums, the tooth’s nerve doesn’t serve a specific purpose other than sensing heat, cold, and other stimuli. Thus, removing the nerve in an infected tooth is a standard procedure to treat tooth pain caused by decay or infection in the tooth pulp.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN GETTING A ROOT CANAL

A root canal is a dental procedure that involves removing the infected tooth pulp (and sometimes the nerve) from a tooth and sealing it to protect against future teeth pain. This procedure is comprised of multiple steps.
Here’s what you can expect when you have a root canal procedure to relieve root canal pain:
Initial X-Rays: Your dental professional will take an x-ray to determine the extent of the infection.
Getting you Comfortable: The first step in the actual procedure is a local anesthetic to numb the area and prevent teeth pain during the procedure. A local anesthetic will be administered to make you more comfortable.
Going In: Next step is to drill an access hole into the tooth and use special tools to remove the damaged nerve and pulp tissue.
Crowning: Once the infection is removed, we will cap the tooth with a customized porcelain crown.
