Has it been a few years since your last cleaning? Maybe your gums are really sore and you’re bleeding a lot while brushing and flossing. Maybe your breath isn’t as fresh as you’d like. This may represent the health of your gums. If this all sounds familiar, it may be a good time for a deep cleaning called a scaling and root planing.
WHAT IS SCALING & ROOT PLANING?
Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning below the gumline used to treat gum disease.
WHAT DOES SCALING & ROOT PLANING DO?
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure done to treat periodontal disease. Although routine cleanings are done to prevent periodontal (gum) disease, this procedure – sometimes called a deep cleaning – is considered the “gold standard” of treatment for patients with chronic periodontitis.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN GETTING SCALING & ROOT PLANING
Just like it’s named, this deep cleaning has two parts.
Scaling: First we will remove all the plaque and tartar above and below your gum line, making sure to clean all the way down to the bottom of the pocket.
Root Planing: This step is the process of smoothing out your teeth roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth.
Scaling and root planing may take more than one visit to complete and may require a local anesthetic.
HOW MUCH DOES SCALING & ROOT PLANING COST?
Scaling and root planing costs can range greatly depending on your own unique situation. The Dental Lounge offers easy payment plans with 0% interest, designed to keep your smile looking its best.
