Taking Care Of Your Dentures In Pompano Beach

Dentures can be completely life-changing if you have suffered missing teeth for any reason. So many adults have lost permanent teeth in various ways, losing a chunk of self-confidence in the process. Having dentures can completely restore your smile to its former glory, in some cases leaving you feeling even better than before. At The Dental Lounge, we love the results our patients see with dentures, but it is important to take good care of them if you mean them to be a long-term, worthwhile investment!

How To Take Proper Care Of Your Dentures

Regular dental checkups

Visit your dentist often for the health of your natural teeth as well as to have your dentures professionally cleaned and examined. Your dentist will keep your dentures fitting properly to avoid irritation and infection of the mouth.

Handle your dentures with care

Take care not to bend or break the clasps when holding or cleaning your dentures and do your best not to drop them as they could break.

Brush your dentures daily

As with natural teeth, you must brush dentures twice daily (once at the very least) using a soft-bristled brush and a nonabrasive denture cleaner. Be sure to clean the grooves and/or clasps too.

Use proper denture cleaners

Using an approved denture cleanser and the right brushes is essential for denture longevity. Avoid stiff-bristled brushes and harsh or whitening toothpaste, which will be too abrasive and will damage your dentures. Boiling water will warp your dentures. Pay attention to water temperature. Avoid products that contain bleach or chlorine as they can weaken your dentures, cause discoloration or even corrode metal attachments. It is important to note that denture cleansers should never be used inside the mouth.

Remove and rinse your dentures after eating

Run cool water over your dentures to remove food debris after you eat. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean your natural teeth and your cheeks, palate and tongue after removing your dentures and clean away remaining denture adhesive if you use any.

Soak dentures overnight

Dentures must stay moist to retain their shape. Leave your dentures in clean water or a denture soak overnight as per your dentist’s instructions. Be sure to thoroughly rinse your dentures before reinserting them.
